The next open meeting of the SOSiS steering committee will be on Thursday 15th January at 7pm at the Maybury Centre in Woking. We will get an update on the Care Homes Campaign, The Spelthorne Fire Stations campaign and any other local anti-cuts campaigns. We will also draw up our 'Charter' to put to candidates for the elections in May.
There are two Care Homes Campaign public meetings organised by SOSiS which we would encourage local activists to attend: PARK HALL AND DORMERS Saturday 29 November 2pm Harlequin Theatre Warwick Quadrant, Redhill Town Centre, Surrey, RH1 1NN COBGATES 4th December - 7.00pm to 9.00pm Brambleton Hall, Talbot Road, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8RR Denise Le Gal, the Surrey County Council Cabinet Member who said in October that 'I would not put my own Mum in one of these homes' has been asked by SOSIS and by residents and family members to explain or retract that statement. We have not heard any response as yet. Please make sure you have signed the online petition which is now over 800 signatures. http://petitions.surreycc.gov.uk/SaveCareHomes/ Around a dozen pickets were out this morning (coldest morning of the year so far) at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey. The mood was upbeat and the support from passers-by was great. This was the first outing for our new SOSiS banner. We must keep up the campaign for a decent pay rise for all. Well done to the NHS workers!
